“We will not fail you, Nationalians.”
As quoted from her campus oath-taking last week, ZNNHS Supreme Student Government President Mariel Razo Barbaso leveled an oath as the newly-elected SSG Federated President of Dipolog City Division at Top Plaza Hotel last September 23.
Attended by the SSG presidents of the participating secondary schools in the division, Mariel top-notched the election. She was bestowed the highest responsibility to govern the federation of school leaders in the city.
In her acceptance speech, Mariel narrated her advocacies as the SSG president of ZNNHS. She emphasized how relevant and timely during her term to conduct fun activities that would address the mental health struggles of students due to academic pressures and program drives to maintain campus cleanliness. She further said these would be the same advocacies she would like to push through as the federated president.
Project Development Officer I – Youth Formation Coordinator Andrew Homil G. Elumbaring presided over the election. The program started with the registration of SSG presidents and their advisers and ended with the oath-taking of the new set of officers. Moreover, ZNNHS SSG adviser Gina C. Bangcal accompanied and supported Mariel on this day’s feat. Last year, ZNNHS SSG President Nino Paolo M. Paluca was also the elected SSG Federated President, who was eventually elected the regional auditor of the federation.
School principals Joselito S. Tizon and Virginia E. Tagab, who both know Mariel and her leadership, congratulated the latter for clinching the federation presidency. Both expressed support and pride.
“Being elected as the Division Federated SSG President, I’m thrilled to have been given the opportunity to guide my fellow students through this current way of learning. It is not an easy journey, but with the help of our supportive teachers, friends, and students, we can make many things possible, especially for the welfare of my co-learners. I am also looking forward to the regional federation as it is a venue to represent our voices as students. I will be doubly responsible,” Mariel said.
As the article writer comfortably calls her, Mariel is a Grade 12 HUMMS student – a leader, writer, and voracious reader. She formerly held the second-highest position in the SSG as vice president. Now the school’s SSG President and Division Federated President, Mariel, is a work in progress to better serve the student body and the federation. As pronounced in her oath, she will never fail us, Nationalians.
