Grade 9- Diamond, a special class for Science Technology and Engineering who opted for the online distance learning upon enrollment, conducted a dry run of seemingly-actual classes last August 17, 2020.
Students were facilitated in with online classes by their subject teachers in Science 9, Shenah Mae M. Cuevas; Mathematics 9, Ann France B. Oyag; Araling Panlipunan 9, Jo-ann O. Villafuerte; and English 9, Abigael V. Nalzaro who prepared for Module 1, Week 1 lesson activities and visual presentations. Said teachers used the Google Meet platform to conduct a synchronous class with students who were given the link and class codes for admission.
Joining the classes in the Google Meet and personally witnessing the actual dry-run of teachers, DepEd Dipolog City Division Supervisors and Education Program Supervisors Ma’am Zhyrine Mayormita, Ma’am Janette Zamoras, Ma’am Monina Antiquina and Ma’am Elma Quimpo observed and congratulated the teachers who did the actual classes. School Principal Adrian Refugio and head teachers of the different departments also actually observed the class at the ICT Room, Main Campus.
“The dry-run was a success. I did it at my home where I virtually met my students for the first time via Google Meet. It was smooth-sailing although the time allotment for Mathematical problems and solutions to discuss would be much better face to face. Grade 9 Diamond however exuded great participation and even submitted their activity sheets back online as expected,” said Ann France Buhisan, Mathematics teacher.
“Online class is a new thing for everyone in our school and that fact added to more pressure to us teachers and students as well. Given a stable internet connection, I think it is a better modality of learning in a special class like 9-Diamond. The interaction between me and my students partly went well so I could say it was a successful one,” added Ma’am Jo-ann Villafuerte, Araling Panlipunan teacher.
Online distance learning is one of the modalities in the new normal. Very few sections subscribed to this modality since a majority of the enrollees chose modular distance learning either digital or printed.
