October 12, 2022 – Local Government of Dipolog sent a technical team with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) to Zamboanga del Norte National High School Main Campus to discuss and monitor matters on the implementation of the pilot school in the Comprehensive Sexuality Education – Adolescent Reproductive Health integration in the curriculum and school’s student services.
School Principal IV Joselito S. Tizon welcomed the team which was composed of Dipolog City Health Officers, the Commission of Population Development (POPCOM), the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF), and DepEd Dipolog focal persons of the program.
TCI, a global platform that supports the government, especially on programs for adolescents, is composed of the POPCOM and the ZFF. The latter interviewed School Principal Tizon about the challenges the school met before the CSE – ARH implementation. TCI pointed out the teenage pregnancy cases and the interventions of the school on this issue.
“The school has provided intervention for students under teenage pregnancy cases. Digital learning modality is provided for them so they can continue their education,” said Mr. Tizon.
While it is the program of the global platform TCI, Dipolog City Health, and DepEd CSE-ARH to support an adolescent-friendly environment in schools, their main advocacy is to integrate comprehensive sexuality education for learners to have better choices on matters of their sexual health.
ZNNHS, the first in the division, is the pilot implementer of CSE – ARH curriculum integration to subjects in Science, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, and Personality Development. Topics on sexuality and education are integrated and developed in these subject areas. Mr. Tizon further emphasized that this program is set for more teacher capacity-building workshops, enhancement training, and module writing development.
POPCOM National Office representatives Jose Miguel Dela Rosa and Ara Salamanca, POPCOM Regional Office representative Geraldine Carin, POPCOM Dipolog City representative Rochene Marie Baylon, Rosie Serina of City Health Office, Raymond Mazo and Maria Teresa Ferrolino of the Zuellig Family Foundation, and EPS Jessie Samaniego, Jessel Chiu and Rena Betancor Uy of DepEd Dipolog Division composed the team who visited the school for this program implementation.
